Malama Hafsatu Yusuf, a woman who delivered quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, Wednesday had died after suffering excessive bleeding.
The development was confirmed, Thursday by the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabulusi Kofar Na’isa.
Malama Hafsatu could not be saved by Doctors who have been struggling to save her life throughout the night yesterday, he said.
According to Nabulusi, the mother had given birth to five babies three boys and two girls who are currently receiving specialised medical attention, however the mother died at the facility.
The Medical bill was taken care of by the Kano State Government, and the husband of the deceased, Malam Salisu Nafi’u, a tricycle rider had expressed happiness for the support.
He revealed that the delivery by his wife was the ninth but expressed sadness at her demise.
Her previous delivery produced twins, but this was the first time she gave birth to quintuplets, he explained.
He however, expressed gratitude to the state government for the timely intervention, but expressed deep sadness at her loss.
“This support has come at a very critical moment for my family, and we are deeply grateful to the government”, he said.
Spokesperson of the ministry of health, said, the government intervention was part of broader efforts to strengthen the healthcare system in Kano, particularly at improving maternal and child health services.
“The government has promptly intervened but there’s nothing that could be done to stop her death despite the prompt Medical support and attention”, the Statement added.
It reaffirmed government commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates while ensuring access to quality healthcare, especially for vulnerable populations.
“We will continue to support the general public, particularly the less privileged, ensure they have access to quality healthcare services,” the statement added.
