Kano State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment process against Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.

Already, the Deputy Governor has been served the impeachment notice signed by 38 members of the House.

He is expected to defend himself from all the allegations within 14 days.

House Majority leader, Hon. Lawan Husaini who addressed journalists and confirmed the development, said, after the special session on Thursday, the Assembly’s decision to present the notice of impeachment to the Deputy Governor was resolved.

He said, at the special plenary, the notice was read citing the allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office and breach of public trust, against the Deputy Governor.

While the deputy governor is expected to revert his position to the house within two weeks, it was gathered the impeachment process was highly connected to his resolve not to defect to APC along with the State’s Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf who changed from NNPP to APC.

Analysts said, should the impeachment process materialize, Comrade Abdulsalam would go down in history as the second deputy governor to be impeached by the State Assembly.

During the second Republic, Alhaji Ibrahim Bibi Farouk was impeached by the assembly for his refusal to defect to NPP along with the then governor, late Muhammad Abubakar Rimi.
