Impeachment: Avoid Vindictiveness, Kwankwasiyya Movement advised Kano House of Assembly

EditorBy EditorMarch 7, 2026

By Salisu Ibrahim

Following the two weeks ultimatum given to the Kano State, Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo to respond to the allegations leveled against him by the House of Assembly or face impeachment, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has cautioned the Assembly on its plan acrion.

The Kano State House of Assembly and the state government should shelve any move to impeach the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, warning that such action could deepen political divisions and undermine the mandate of the people who voted for the joint ticket of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Comrade Abdulsalam under the NNPP platform.

In a statement issued, Friday, the spokesperson of the movement, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, described the unfolding impeachment process as troubling and unhealthy for the political development of the State, urging the political actors in the state to avoid actions that could be interpreted as politically motivated.

According to him, people in Kano are closely monitoring the situation amid growing concerns that the planned impeachment may be driven by political considerations rather than constitutional necessity.

He noted that although the constitution empowers lawmakers to exercise oversight over the executive arm of government, impeachment remains one of the most serious powers available to a legislature and should not be used indiscriminately.
“Impeachment must never be reduced to a tool for settling political disagreements or rearranging political alignments. It must be guided strictly by justice, fairness and the overall interest of the people,” he said.

The Kwankwasiyya spokesman further reminded the state leadership that the mandate that brought the present administration to power was the outcome of the collective sacrifices of supporters across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
“The victory that produced this government was not the achievement of any single individual. It was the product of the sacrifices, loyalty and unity of Kwankwasiyya faithful across Kano State,” he stated.

Mohammed therefore warned that any action that would be perceived as targeting key figures within the administration could send the wrong signal to thousands of supporters who mobilised to secure the electoral victory for the movement.

Those in power must remember the collective struggle that made their success possible. Political authority should not be used in a way that creates the impression of abandoning the alliances and loyalties that built the movement,” he added.
He also urged members of the Kano State House of Assembly to exercise their constitutional powers with caution, independence and a strong sense of responsibility to the electorate.

“The authority of the Assembly comes directly from the people, and such authority must be exercised with wisdom, fairness and accountability,” he said.

The movement further warned that political actions perceived as persecution could create unnecessary tension within the state’s political landscape.

“History has shown that when political power is used in ways that appear unjust or vindictive, the people ultimately deliver their verdict through democratic means,” Sale Mohammed said.

He reaffirmed that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains committed to peace, democratic stability and the protection of the political mandate given by the people of Kano. “At this critical moment, all political actors must act with restraint and wisdom, remembering the sacrifices of the millions of supporters whose collective efforts brought this government into office,” he added.
